Evening Wear: Welcome the New Year in style

The biggest party of the year is usually the beginning of the end - New Year's Eve. An evening to look back on the past year, as well as an evening to celebrate what is to come in 2024. Something we have taken with throughout this past year is to dare to dress up when the opportunity arises. Below, we will go over the outfits for the big night and how to understand the term Evening Wear.

Classical

A dinner suit, tuxedo or Black Tie, as the dress code is also called, is one of the more extravagant options for the New Year. A dress code you do not generally compromise. Choose a black tuxedo or a stylish midnight blue option and pair with a classic knitted silk bowtie and a pair of lacquered shoes. This year, we are letting the Danish Sunflower take the hot seat. The blazer is slightly longer and more classic in cut, with wide shoulders and a defined yoke. The trousers have a higher waist, with a straight and draped fit. The white dinner suit shirt with a reinforced chest is best newly ironed and will also give you a classic feeling. On the feet, we choose a somewhat lighter shoe, perfect for indoor occasions. Lacquer or velvet slip-ins are excellent choices, but a pair of opera pumps can look good on the right wearer.

When it comes to the self-tied bowtie, it can sometimes feel hopeless to tie the knot if you do not use this accessory often. A tip if you want to save time and want to avoid stress at the last second, is to tie it yourself the night before, and simply untie it with the hook that holds both ends together. When you put the bowtie on for the evening, you can simply adjust and gently pull the diagonal ends and fine-tune the look of the bowtie, so that it becomes just what you want it to be. If the above still feels like a waste of time, choose a ready-tied bowtie.

One last detail that providing that little extra is the choice of socks. Save your everyday socks for next year, and go for a pair of black, finely embroidered socks, in a length that just covers the skin when sat down. Socks may not seem as important as the other garments you wear on the evening, but the fact is that it is precisely this detail that can elevate the entire style.

Midnight blue suit

For those who do not feel the need or are fully comfortable wearing an all in tuxedo, can select the dark suit. Midnight blue, dark grey or as suggested below: Pinstripe flannel suit in a deep blue. Here you can choose a classic poplin shirt, preferably in white, keeping the formality. If you instead want to go for a more relaxed interpretation, a finely knitted turtleneck sweater or tone-on-tone polo shirt will perform perfectly. A knitted black tie usually works best for this occasion, but a good alternative may be the dark blue tie. To have a pocket square or not, you do what you feel most comfortable with. On the feet, a pair of black loafers, wholecut or regular Oxfords that are polished with finesse are perfect.

Blazer in a monochrome tone

Wearing a blazer for New Year's Eve can, with the right combination, be at least as stylish as the suit. This blazer from Ralph Lauren's Purple Label line exudes luxury and celebration. With a faint chequered fabric in brushed wool, this blazer makes a powerful impression. Alternative blazers can be the velvet jacket or a Black Watch patterned model. If you want to make sure head turns, you can go for one of Ralph's most iconic looks, where you combine a tuxedo upper with a pair of straight, lighter jeans and Western boots. This look is difficult to imitate and maybe only Mr. Ralph Lauren can get away with it.

Keep your look to the dark monochrome shades and dare to wear a finely knitted turtleneck instead of a shirt. The cable-knit cashmere sweater that you wear over your shoulders not only has a stylistic purpose, but also warms you up when you go out before midnight to celebrate in style at the stroke of twelve. Wear over the thin turtleneck to keep you warm well into the small hours.
